What, then, are the negative aspects of US Search?
- It is currently available only for information that is available in the United States. For this I apologize to my non-U.S readers. However, most of my readers are in the United States, and there are few if any services that can provide comprehensive search for multiple countries.
- Not every piece of information is available for every person. When you pay for a particular level of report you are paying for the search. If the information is not available, you won’t know it until the search is complete. On the other hand US Search is as comprehensive as any search service I have seen.
- My next point is not a reflection on the service, but should be mentioned: You have to know enough about the person you are searching for to differentiate him/her from the potentially large number of people that the search is going to find. The more information you can provide to the search engine the better it can narrow down its search. If you search for a person with the last name of Smith, and that’s all you know, you are going to get a lot of “hits.” You will then have to hope that the information the search engine comes up with allows you to zoom in on the right Smith. This is, of course, true of any people directory, including the phone book.
I use people search services frequently and have tried many of them. Every so-called free service I have used offers the bare minimum and then “upsells” you when you want more details.
